HORSE DONATION
Here at Saving Grace Farm, we need the help of horses and ponies of all shapes and sizes to best serve our riders. Since our horses have such important jobs, it is necessary that they meet specific criteria and standards for safety. Our equine partners work an average of 4 days per week and often carry unbalanced weight. They need to be nearly bombproof, fit, healthy and sound. Their duties include walk/trot arena work, trail riding, field riding, and ground work. Our standard lesson program also entails light canter work, so horses that can soundly canter are more likely to be accepted. All potential horses are carefully screened for behavior and training. We prefer a 30-60 day trial before accepting equines into the program.
Free Lease
Most of Saving Grace's horses/ponies are free leased. This enables an appropriate animal to be a part of our team rather than sitting idle in a pasture. Saving Grace Farm provides every day feed, hay, supplements, and every day care of said equine. We do ask owners to continue to provide farrier visits and vaccinations. As the owner, you retain all rights to the horse and are responsible for all veterinary decisions and costs. In the event that the horse/pony no longer enjoys their role or can no longer fulfill their role due to health, soundness, etc., they are returned to the owner.
Donation
Saving Grace will from time to time consider accepting a wonderful candidate for donation. They must be the right fit, enjoy the job, and have an exceptional personality in order to be considered. We also try to ensure we have a sponsor before accepting a donated horse, to ensure that their care is covered completely. In the event that the horse/pony no longer enjoys their role or can no longer fulfill their role due to health, soundness, etc., we will try to place them in ground only activities. However, if they are unable to participate in programs, the previous owner is given first right of refusal. Then depending on space, they are either retired at the facility, or adopted out to a family that can properly care for them until end of life.
If we do not currently have room, you can also refer to PATH International's directory for other centers in NC or surrounding states that may consider your horse for their program. Just remember they will have similar requirements for soundness, health and personality.
