LESSONS

Our Equine Specialist, Stacey Carter, offers traditional riding and horsemanship lessons for students age 7 and older.  Students begin with the same lessons that are taught to volunteers and GALLOP students, addressing topics such as leadership, confidence, clear communication and control of body and emotions.  Students then progress to riding skills, beginning by developing a balanced seat on the longe line, and moving on to dressage and jumping skills.  Stacey learned to ride through the United States Pony Club, has evented at the Preliminary level, and studies Dressage with a USDF certified instructor.  Focusing on the importance of a good relationship with the horse and correct riding basics, this program offers a perfect start for any beginning rider.  Lessons are private and cost $35 per hour.

TRAINING

Our Equine Specialist, Stacey Carter, accepts a limited number of horses in training board, at a cost of $700 per month.  The same concepts of non-violence and leadership without force that are presented in the GALLOP program are applied to starting young horses under saddle.  Over many years, the horses have taught Stacey what works and what doesn't, and that with good leadership and communication, any horse will become a willing partner.  Her liberty training program ensures that the horse is never forced to accept anything against his will, and in a short time the horse allows himself to be saddled, bridled, and ridden, with no stress or anxiety.  These techniques are also effective for restarting horses that have developed unwanted behaviors, such as bucking or bolting.
